A spiral pipe rewards a fine grind. A coiled airway is a narrow airway, and coarse herb is what clogs it. Pack the top piece firm rather than tight, light while you draw, and take it steady. Drawing hard works against the design, since the smoke needs its time in the spiral to cool.
