Soaking handles the flat surfaces.
It does not handle a bowl, a joint or a narrow stem, which is where residue actually collects. This kit is the mechanical half: 88 pipe cleaners, five nylon brushes and a stainless 3-in-1 tool, $14.99.
Two bundles of 44. The soft cotton ones handle everyday passes through a stem. The bristled ones handle buildup that has been sitting a while, and they are stiff enough to shift it without scratching glass or anodizing. Every pipe cleaner is reusable, so a bundle lasts.
3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 millimeter brushes on a detachable keyring. The range matters. A brush that is too small does nothing, and one that is too big will not go in. Nylon on rust-resistant metal, so you can rinse them under a tap when you are done.
Scraper, needle and tamper in one stainless steel handle. The scraper takes resin off a surface. The needle clears a blocked airway. The tamper packs a bowl evenly. These are the three jobs people usually improvise with a paperclip.
Pipes, storage containers, grinders, and anything with a channel too narrow for a cloth. It works as a glass pipe cleaner set, and some people reach for it as a bong cleaning kit for the downstem and joint, which is exactly the part a soak leaves behind.
The two halves do different jobs. The All-in-One Cleaner dissolves what sits on the surfaces. These tools reach what the liquid cannot circulate through. Together that is a full clean. Either one alone leaves something.
Everything in one kit, nothing to buy separately. Premium quality, without the premium price tag.
