Size is most of the decision, and it maps to how far you are going rather than how much you own.

How Carbon Lining Actually Works

This is the part worth understanding, because "smell proof" gets used loosely. An airtight jar works by blocking air. Nothing moves, so nothing escapes. A bag cannot do that, so it uses adsorption instead: activated carbon is riddled with microscopic pores, and odor molecules stick to them as air passes through. The air still moves. The smell does not come with it.

The practical difference is that a carbon-lined bag keeps working while you open and close it over and over, which is exactly how a bag gets used. It also means the carbon does the work, so a bag with a thin or decorative lining will not perform, no matter what the label says. Every carbon-lined bag here uses the same activated bamboo carbon lining.

Do You Need the Lock?

Five of the six carbon-lined bags have a combination lock with a code you set yourself: the Wallets, the Wrist Bag, the Large Case, the Backpack and the Duffle. On the Backpack it is built into the top of the bag, three dials with the zipper pulls clipping straight into it. The Duffle has two, one on the bag and one on its detachable pouch.

A lock is not about odor. It is about a bag that sits in a shared space, like a house with roommates, a locker or a car, and about keeping children and pets out of medication and anything else that should not be casually reachable.

The Fanny Pack is the one without a lock, on purpose. A bag strapped to your body does not need one.

Shells, Zippers and What's Inside

The zipper is where a bag fails first, and where odor would otherwise escape. So it gets real attention here.

Mylar Bags for Portioning

Mylar is the third approach. It is a metalized barrier film that blocks rather than adsorbs, which is why the Color-Coded Mylar Bags are flat resealable pouches rather than something you carry gear in. They are 120 micron, thicker than most mylar in this format, with a heavy-duty resealable zipper, a writable label printed on the front and a fully water and moisture proof build. Four options: 3 x 4 inch in a 100 pack, 4 x 6 inch in a 24 or 100 pack, and 5 x 7 inch in a 100 pack.

Worth being clear: these are small bags for everyday storage of herbs, spices and loose leaf tea. They are not heat-seal food-storage mylar, and they are not dispensary packaging.

Bags or Rigid Containers?

Different jobs, and most people end up with both. A bag carries. It flexes, holds odd shapes and goes on your shoulder. What it will not do is protect glass, or hold an airtight seal.

A rigid container stores. An airtight jar or a metal tube holds a proper gasket seal and keeps its contents fresh for weeks, but it is a fixed shape and it does not carry anything else.

The usual setup is a jar or tube inside a bag: the container handles freshness, the bag handles everything else. Rigid options are in storage.
