Grind to a medium texture, about like coarse salt, and pack the bowl firm rather than tight. Packing hard is the usual reason a bowl pulls badly. Cover the carb hole with your thumb, light the bowl while you draw, then lift your thumb to clear it. That release is the whole point of the carb hole.
